Web Home Page: Majete Wildlife Reserve covers 691 km of hilly terrain between the Shire and Mwanza rivers. Much of the area's vegetation consists of miombo woodland with some riverine forest, and extensive supports a small elephant population, as well as hippopotamus, kudu, sable, bushbuck, waterbuck, Sharpe's grysbok, plains zebra and warthog. It contains the magnificent Kapichira Falls on the Shire River, and here the bird-watching is excellent. Location: Southern Malawi; south-west of Blantyre. Access: From Blantyre follow the main road southwards (M1) for about 40 km, then take the right turn to Chikwawa; continue past this settlement to the entrance of the reserve. Only 4x4 vehicles can reach it between December and June. Permission to enter the reserve must be obtained in advance. Accommodation: Mkurumadzi Camp has 1 4-bed chalet and a camping site with basic facilities; communal kitchen and ablution facilities. There is no electricity.
